MODBUS has become one of the most widely used fieldbuses throughout in the world since its introduction in 1979. It is a serial based communication protocol and has two serial variants – MODBUS RTU and MODBUS ASCII. Later and implementation of MODBUS was introduced over Ethernet called MODBUS TCP.
The IDX Academy, who operates the MODBUS Competence Center OF South Africa, offers an introductory course where students learn about the MODBUS protocol and how to avoid the various pitfalls one can incur when implementing MODBUS networks and digital communications system in general.
Product & services
The MODBUS Competence Centre offers a 1-day Introduction to MODBUS. Delegates will be introduced to digital communications systems, the variants of MODBUS (RTU, ASCII and TCP), the MODBUS protocol itself and are required to set up a MODBUS network in the practical.
Engineers are available to do network callouts and can assist with network design. They are able to highlight potential failure points and will make recommendations based on their assessment.
As a distributor of the Anybus range by HMS, The Center can recommend and sell gateways that allow for the interfacing of MODBUS to other fieldbuses such as PROFIBUS, DeviceNet, ControlNet, PROFINET, EtherntIP, etc.
